JOB SUMMARY Works under moderate supervision to provide veterinary medical and surgical services for research animals in accordance with federal laws and other organizational requirements. Requirements

  • DVM or VMD degree from Accredited Veterinarian Medical Association school, and
  • Completion of two (2) to three (3) year postdoctoral training program in laboratory animal medicine
  • 3 years to five (5) years related veterinary experience.
  • Current license to practice veterinary medicine in the United States Upon Hire

Responsibilities

  • Provides medical and surgical care for research animals.
  • Coordinates health assessments of incoming non-commercial research animals.
  • Assists in Institutional Animal Care and Research Advisory Committee protocol reviews.
  • Represents Animal Resources Center Director concerning animal health issues in event of his/her absence.
  • Communicates with research staff and faculty regarding animal health and welfare.
  • Coordinates quarantine and health maintenance of animal colonies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
