We are seeking a talented, experienced Senior Staff Thermal Engineer to help define the future of lunar surface mobility in a fast-paced startup environment.

Requirements

  • Experience working with spacecraft Active and Passive Thermal Control Hardware, including coatings, multi-layer insulation, pumped fluid loop systems, radiators, heat spreaders/straps, thermal isolation, and heaters
  • Experience in making mechanical and interface control drawings
  • Expert-level ability with SolidWorks and/or Creo
  • Experience with hardware procurement and testing
  • Experience designing to requirements
  • Experience with component testing and mechanical requirements verification
  • Strong familiarity with radiative and conductive heat transfer principles in space environments
  • Strong familiarity with pumped fluid loop system performance in space environments
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Thermo-fluids Engineering
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience
  • Self-motivated, focused, and driven to meet critical deadlines
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience with software control of active thermal components
  • Experience leading teams of engineers with different skill sets
  • Experience presenting at program milestone reviews, such as Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews, Testing, and Manufacturing Readiness Reviews
  • Experience with Subsystem and/or Vehicle-level Thermal Cycle, Thermal Balance, and TVAC testing

Responsibilities

  • Lead/coordinate the work of engineers involved in thermal control hardware design and operation
  • Work closely with the Thermal Analysis Lead to ensure design closure of the Thermal Control Subsystem of the vehicle
  • Accountable for the thermal control hardware design
  • Present the thermal design and status at internal and customer meetings and reviews
  • Ensure mechanical and interface control drawings for thermal control hardware are produced according to the program schedule and requirements
  • Coordinate procurement of thermal control hardware in line with the program schedule
  • Involved in the management of the thermal control hardware budget
  • Coordinate testing and instrumentation of thermal control hardware in component, sub-system, and/or vehicle level testing in cooperation with the Thermal Analysis Lead and Test Group Lead
  • Responsible for the tracking of thermal control hardware
  • Inspect installed engineering unit and flight unit thermal control hardware for compliance with drawings and requirements
