About The Position

iMETALX, Inc. is creating a future where space is accessible and sustainable for all. We provide space domain awareness (SDA) and in-space servicing, assembly and manufacturing (ISAM) solutions for governments and commercial customers. Our work spans spacecraft autonomy (world view, perception, and controls) as well as testing and deploying software on real systems. We are building a dynamic, high-impact team focused on developing innovative applications in computer vision, machine learning, and autonomy. This role offers the chance to significantly influence our technical direction, culture, and impact within our exciting projects. Role Overview: As a Principal or Staff Software Engineer on the Computer Vision Team, you will support the development of cutting-edge computer vision solutions for our RPOD, ISAM, and SDA projects. You will leverage your expertise to oversee the architectural design, run time, and efficiency of our systems, and ensure the successful integration of complex software components. Your responsibilities will include developing advanced algorithms and systems, shaping prototype code and new ML models into deployable products, presenting findings to stakeholders, and driving technical strategy while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional experience in software engineering or applied computer vision/machine learning.
  • Strong command of Python and C++, and demonstrated ability to develop production-grade systems.
  • Proven experience in computer vision, robotics perception, autonomous systems, or related fields, with a focus on reliability and performance.
  • Ability and willingness to work on-site in Sausalito, CA.
  • U.S. citizenship due to ITAR export-control restrictions; only U.S. citizens are eligible for this position.
  • Deep expertise in software deployment and optimization, with a strong portfolio of successful implementations in real-world applications.
  • Experience with Computer Vision and autonomous systems
  • Proficient in Python and C++, with a proven track record of building scalable and maintainable software systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an aptitude to work on complex, ambiguous challenges and manage competing priorities.
  • Results-driven with excellent communication skills, able to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, or other SWaP-constrained systems.
  • Familiarity with simulation tools, cloud computing, and complex API integrations.
  • Experience with GPU programming (CUDA) or optimization of computer vision algorithms.
  • Hands-on experience with advanced perception frameworks or technologies.
  • Experience with Space Systems

  • Architect, implement, and refine advanced computer vision and machine learning algorithms and systems.

  • Drive the end-to-end development process, from ideation to deployment, of CV solutions tailored for space and terrestrial applications.
  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of perception systems in real-world scenarios, ensuring reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate with software and control teams to seamlessly integrate vision systems into larger autonomy solutions.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies and methodologies in computer vision and machine learning and translate them into practical applications at iMETALX.
