About the Role As a Senior Staff Site Reliability Engineer, you'll define the technical vision and architecture for reliability across Quizlet's platform. You'll lead large-scale initiatives that ensure our systems remain fast, secure, and resilient - powering a platform that supports millions of learners worldwide. You'll partner with leadership to shape the evolution of our infrastructure, mentor senior engineers, and embed reliability into everything we build. This is an onsite position in our San Francisco office, requiring a minimum of three days per week onsite: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in SRE, infrastructure, or systems engineering, including 5+ years in leadership or staff-level roles.
  • Deep expertise in Kubernetes (GKE), Istio, Terraform, and CI/CD architectures.
  • Proven experience scaling systems and building resilient automation for global platforms.
  • Strong programming skills in Go and Python; capable of architecting automation frameworks.
  • Advanced understanding of observability stacks (Datadog, Jeli) and distributed system performance.
  • Track record of influencing technical direction across multiple teams and domains.
  • Passion for reliability, performance, and creating systems that "run themselves."

Responsibilities

  • Set the strategic direction for reliability engineering and infrastructure automation across Quizlet.
  • Architect self-healing, globally distributed systems that deliver 99.95%+ uptime.
  • Drive modernization of the infrastructure stack - advancing container orchestration, observability, and control-plane automation.
  • Lead cross-team initiatives to improve scalability, resilience, and security in partnership with product and AI platform teams.
  • Define and enforce reliability standards, SLO frameworks, and incident response practices.
  • Mentor senior engineers, fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
