About The Position

Want to work on building out security from the ground up at the leading edge of AI in healthcare globally? We're looking for a very experienced and highly motivated Senior or Staff Security Infrastructure Engineer to join our team as one of the first engineers on the Abridge Security team. In this role, you'll be a key technical leader, driving key initiatives that shape our product, infrastructure, and engineering practices. You'll work cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to integrate security seamlessly, automate security capabilities and controls, design and implement the high-scale infrastructure and data pipelines that power our security organization, and mentor others to build secure-by-default systems at scale in the age of AI. This position requires deep technical expertise, a builder's mindset, and excellent communication skills to influence security culture across the organization. This is a greenfield opportunity to architect the way forward for security at Abridge. You will thrive here if you are passionate about building 0 → 1 and believe that modern security is, at its core, a large-scale data and automation challenge.

Requirements

  • Engineering Maturity: 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years of infrastructure-as-code experience in a cloud-first organization. You bring the seasoned perspective required to establish infrastructure standards for a founding team.
  • The "Platform First" Mindset: You are a software or systems engineer who has spent years building in cloud-native environments (GCP or AWS). You view security as a platform service, not a gate, and have a track record of building tools that people actually enjoy using.
  • Systems Architecture: Experience designing for high availability and scale. You understand how to handle "bursty" security log traffic and build resilient, distributed systems. Experience building and maintaining data pipelines is a plus.
  • Software Engineering: Expert proficiency in at least one modern general-purpose language (Python is a plus). You write clean, testable, and maintainable code.
  • Cross-Functional Influence: Demonstrated ability to drive large, cross-functional technical projects that impact security posture across the entire organization.
  • Pragmatic Execution: You have a bias for action and a knack for navigating ambiguity. You understand how to weigh security risks against business velocity, choosing paved road solutions that empower your internal partners and developers.

Nice To Haves

  • Are excited to be a founding member of a security team, setting the technical bar from day one and building paved road solutions that empower your internal security partners and developers.
  • Thrive in ambiguity and are excited about a greenfield environment.
  • Believe that detection and governance are only as good as the infrastructure supporting them.
  • Treat infrastructure as code and data as a first-class citizen.
  • Enjoy moving between high-level architectural design and deep-dive coding/debugging.

Responsibilities

  • Build the Security Data Backbone: Design, build, and operate high-scale data pipelines to ingest, normalize, and enrich security telemetry for our detection and response functions.
  • Engineer Internal Security Platforms: Develop and maintain self-service platforms that allow security teams to manage secrets, identity perimeters, and security guardrails at scale.
  • Automation and DevSecOps: Write production-grade services to automate complex security workflows, turning manual interventions into reliable, code-driven processes.
  • Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC): Establish automated security guardrails and golden path modules that ensure our cloud resources are secure by default. Codify infrastructure including networking, IAM, Kubernetes, databases, streaming and pubsub platforms, storage, distribution, and more.
  • Enable Cross-Functional Teams: Partner with platform and product engineering to integrate security requirements into the developer lifecycle without introducing friction.
  • Greenfield Leadership: Influence the selection of our security stack, evaluating build vs. buy for core security tooling, and establishing the engineering standards for a growing team.
