Senior Staff Research Scientist, System Integration, Quantum AI
About The Position

As a Research Scientist, you'll setup large-scale tests and deploy promising ideas quickly and broadly, managing deadlines and deliverables while applying the latest theories to develop new and improved products, processes, or technologies. From creating experiments and prototyping implementations to designing new architectures, our research scientists work on real-world problems that span the breadth of computer science, such as machine (and deep) learning, data mining, natural language processing, hardware and software performance analysis, improving compilers for mobile platforms, as well as core search and much more. As a Research Scientist, you'll also actively contribute to the wider research community by sharing and publishing your findings, with ideas inspired by internal projects as well as from collaborations with research programs at partner universities and technical institutes all over the world. The role will work across hardware, software, and operations teams to deliver and validate quantum computing system platforms aligned with the QAI roadmap. You will work with technical leads to develop the system architecture requirements from functional requirements. You will also coordinate with software teams to ensure software tools enable the system to operate and achieve its goals requirements. As a partner to project and product managers, you will develop system program plans with associated metrics for transparent tracking of progress. You’ll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the organization. The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations. Google Quantum AI's mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications.
Requirements
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
- 8 years of experience in developing systems hardware systems engineering, software integration, and testing.
- 8 years of experience with integrating multiple custom technologies into a hardware system.
- Experience translating technical objectives into component functional and performance requirements for systems.
Nice To Haves
- Experience building and operating quantum computing systems.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Ability to work across technical and business teams to deliver hardware systems to schedule and specification.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Anticipate potential issues and propose solutions, manage dependencies and cross-functional interfaces, and identify opportunities to improve tools or processes.
