About The Position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a key member of Insulet's Supplier Engineering team, which is part of Insulet's R&D organization. Insulet manages a global supply chain and sources precision components and commodities from around the world for use in its devices. The Senior Mechanical Engineer has several key roles on the team. First, s/he serves as coach and consultant to Supplier Engineers to resolve mechanical challenges that present during supplier component manufacturing. Reasons for engagement may include urgently investigating and remediating a critical quality issue, continuous improvement, or supporting the introduction of a new or modified component. Second, s/he will own high-value improvement projects, ranging from developing improved manufacturing processes, deploying automated inspection systems, redesigning packaging, and recommending and leading component and material changes to improve manufacturability. Finally, s/he will serve as a key resource to review and approve component-level print specifications to ensure GD&T is adhered to and that design for manufacturability is considered for all Insulet components. The Ideal candidate will have significant experience with precision component manufacturing for high-volume assembled devices including precision plastics, metal stampings, screw manufacturing, and packaging design. The ideal candidate additionally has experience working with suppliers of custom precision components for use in medical devices, automotive, or another highly-regulated industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • 10 years of work experience in a regulated industry.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated application and expertise with SolidWorks or Pro-E.
  • Experience and capability with statistical analysis using tools like Minitab, JMP, Statgraphics, Excel.
  • Six Sigma Process Improvement Experience/Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Build the capability of others to assure successful project execution.
  • Advise teams of supplier engineers and quality engineers as they investigate and improve supplier processes.
  • Become an expert on the mechanical systems of Insulet's device platforms.
  • Provide day-to-day mechanical technical leadership to members of the Supplier Engineering team.
  • Serve as the key signatory of Insulet component print specifications.
  • Lead critical root cause investigations and drive corrective action.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects, including identifying alternative manufacturing methods.
  • Design gauging and inspection fixtures/equipment in support of Insulet supplier metrology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
