About The Position

If you are a gearbox expert with a passion for seeing your parts on high impact products, we need your help developing the most exciting electric humanoid robot. As a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer on the Atlas Actuation team, you will leverage your creativity and knowledge on all aspects of gear and gearbox design to make impactful decisions from concept design to production. Additionally, as a senior member of the team, you will be an integral part of expanding production focused best practices and expertise. You will be responsible for designing, analyzing, DFM’ing, and working with internal and external partners to produce gearboxes and drivetrains. Your expertise will play a crucial role in ensuring reliability and adding value to our products. Navigating ambiguity, creative thinking, attention to detail, technical excellence, efficient communication, and a team first collaborative mindset are key superpowers that will lead to success. How you will make an impact: Design and develop gear systems for various robot platforms considering factors such as kinematic arrangements, operational load spectra, efficiency, packaging constraints, weight, manufacturability, and cost Conceptual layout of gears, bearings, planet carriers and critical interfaces using CATIA v6. Analyses and optimization of system under various loading and stack up conditions accounting for thermal variations and external environmental effects using KISSsys, MASTA, and internal tools Interface definition, analytical validation, and manufacturability/assemblability of all machine elements in the drivetrain assembly Optimize gear designs for various stages from concept to mass production. Evaluate and trade a wide variety of materials, manufacturing processes, surface treatments, and finishing operations. Reason through abstract, novel considerations and constraints specific to the emerging humanoid robot industry Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team
