Senior / Staff Equipment & Mechanical Engineer

TwelveBerkeley, CA

About The Position

Twelve is pioneering a new industrial era with carbon transformation. We use electrochemistry to turn CO2 into critical products—fuels, chemicals, and materials—that today rely on fossil fuels. Our mission: to fundamentally change how the world makes its essential goods by transforming CO2 from a liability into a resource, building resilient, fossil-free supply chains, and advancing next-generation industry. We would like this to be your dream job. Many of us start in engineering work, hoping to get to invent things and build them in a creative environment, surrounded by people who are doing the same. While many careers turn into an endless slog of specifications and detail optimization, we are doing that inventive work of our dreams and that work is especially rewarding because it is work that the world needs. This position is on a small team that primarily supports our test stations. These stations (at multiple scales) are custom devices managing gas, liquid, temperature, and current for our electrochemical cells. Modification of test equipment to suit a particular scientific purpose is a normal part of our operation. In this position, you will work with electrochemists, materials engineers, operations staff, and your fellow equipment/mechanical engineers to determine the best path forward to reach a particular goal. Then, you’ll execute projects that vary from a few days of sourcing and assembly to projects that require months of design, work with multiple vendors and outside fabricators, and install coordination with internal partners. We aim to work proportionally and elegantly to build the right tool for the job of the moment.
