About The Position

Serco is looking for a Senior Staff Engineer SME, to join our team! The engineer will be working to support our Satellite Ground System organization by leading a team in program execution located in Orlando, FL. The SME interfaces with the Program Manager, and other leads, as well as the customer. This position is contingent upon your ability to maintain and transfer your DoD Secret security clearance Dependent on selected candidate; may consider Hybrid teleworking; as required In this role, the key responsibilities will be:

Requirements

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance
  • U.S Citizenship
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field (STEM degree required)
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience or 13 years with a Master’s Degree in the following; Experience developing and implementing the overall engineering strategy and technical roadmap in alignment with the program’s long-term business goals
  • Experience supervising all phases of engineering projects, from initial design and development to final implementation, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget
  • Experience establishing and enforcing engineering standards, best practices, and quality control processes to ensure the reliability, safety, and effectiveness of all products and systems
  • Experience acting as a primary technical point of contact, communicating with executive leadership, clients, vendors, and other stakeholders on project status, risks, and technical decisions
  • Experience identifying and mitigating technical risks throughout the project lifecycle
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer use including typical office applications (MS Office Suite)
  • Cisco networking experience
  • VOIP technology, RHEL, virtualization, and/or VMware experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 10% (CONUS & OCONUS) ability to obtain and maintain a passport

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge base of SATCOM Operational Management Systems, DISA Teleport Ground systems, or other MILSATCOM enterprise-ground system architectures
  • Master of Science in Engineering or other STEM discipline
  • Scrum Master or Product Owner certification
  • Mentoring experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex projects and leading cross-functional teams
  • Experience working with satellite communications technology system architecture, interfaces, protocols, control, planning, equipment, concept of operation, troubleshooting, policies, and/or procedures
  • Experience in the design, implementation and delivery of sophisticated software systems in stages of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Experience performing in software development teams using Agile or waterfall

Responsibilities

  • Leadership and management Lead, mentor, and train engineering and technical staff.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to team members.
  • Provide input for performance reviews and lead staff development.
  • Project and technical oversight Oversee all phases of engineering design, development, and production.
  • Supervise the installation of equipment.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and ensure the final product meets all standards.
  • Operational and strategic planning Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to improve system reliability.
  • Manage vendor and contractor relationships.
  • Analyze data to identify areas for improvement and create reports for senior leadership.
  • Create strategic plans and set a cohesive vision.
