Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Senior Staff Electromechanical Engineer with the desire to learn new technologies to join our innovative Software Technologies Organization to help develop, enhance and maintain software on cutting edge products and systems. Candidates will work collaboratively with electrical, mechanical, materials, and manufacturing engineering to support the design and manufacture of innovative technology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with 14 years of experience, master's degree with 12 years of experience, Ph.D. with 10 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • U.S Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to maintain a DoD Secret Clearance prior to starting.
  • 14 years of experience with PWB/CCA design and signal routing, including chip-scale packaging technologies and substrate/PWB layout.
  • 14 years of working knowledge of materials, specifications, manufacturing processes and design tools.
  • 14 years of experience with NX or other 3D modeling software; familiarity with developing and maintaining NX or other 3D modeling software template design files.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related technical fields.
  • A current/active DoD Secret/Top Secret Clearance or higher.
  • Proficiency with ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and ASME Y14.100 engineering drawing practices.
  • Familiarity with thermal and structural analysis considerations.
  • Familiarity with additive manufacturing, brazing, corrosion, PWB design, and the material implications on the design process.
  • Experience in technical leadership for a cross-functional team.
  • Strong familiarity with MIL-spec and industry standard components for aerospace and defense applications.
  • System level thinker capable of developing system solutions while simultaneously paying critical attention to lower-level design specifics.
  • Familiarity across spectrum of system and platform environmental (land, air, sea, etc) requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Apply electrical, electronic, mechanical, and material principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers to help improve design skills and knowledge; lead and oversee a team of multidisciplined engineers to identify innovative solutions to complex mechanical, electrical, and materials problems.
  • Organizing and prioritizing tasks to accomplish project milestones within schedule and budgetary constraints.
  • Identify innovative opportunities for process improvements that both meet the Northrop Grumman quality requirements but allow for quick turn rapid prototyping.
  • Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems.
  • Supports supplier quality audits as an acting SME in material disciplines that impact electromechanical systems, including brazing, soldering, PWB fabrication, etc.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, production, testing, electrical, systems, and quality teams to troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues.
  • Participate in and oversee the maintenance of the Common Radar Module (CRM) tool, ensuring its compliance to Vita standards, and incorporating feedback from the design community.
