Box is looking for a Senior Staff Architect to join the Conversion Team, which is part of the Box Storage Platform. This team is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining services related to processing customer content and creating representations that power nearly every feature in Box, including Box Intelligence, Preview, Watermarking, Realtime collaboration, Search, Automation, and Workflows. As a Senior Staff Architect, you will define the next generation of architecture for this critical part of Box’s infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Own and lead the conversion domain including the backend infrastructure and the conversions built on top of it
  • Contribute to and inform company objectives across teams and functions in creative, effective, and diplomatic ways
  • Be hands-on working on code for prototyping and contributing production changes
  • Work closely with the engineering team and leadership to develop strategies for evolving the platform
  • Collaborate with Product Management to refine requirements and break down complex projects into meaningful, deliverable units
  • Use a data-driven approach to devise strategies for processing customer content while balancing efficiency, quality, and security requirements
  • Represent the Conversion team in the EAC and other architecture-oriented discussions

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent work experience
  • 12+ years of Software Development experience in distributed systems
  • 3+ years of experience in a Software Architecture oriented role
  • Excited about solving complex technical problems using data-driven solutions
  • Act like an owner and strive to do work you're proud of, both technically and in team interactions

  • Advanced media conversions, e.g. Video
  • Extracting structured data from unstructured files (e.g. PDF)
  • Processing data for use in AI/ML applications
