About The Position

The Senior Accountant is responsible for securing financial operations by monitoring and approving financial processing both monthly and annually, managerial reporting, and supervising staff. The position is properly performed when all essential duties and responsibilities are executed by following the Safer Values: Exceeding Expectations, Communication and Collaboration, Integrity and Evidence Based Innovation.

Requirements

  • Graduate of four year accounting degree program or in related discipline.
  • Three years or more of experience preferred in generalist accounting or finance.
  • Proven ability to develop and train people on how to use financial spreadsheets.
  • Highly proficient with relational database accounting software, MIPS, and other popular accounting programs.
  • Hands-on experience and self-sufficiency with Microsoft productivity tools, including Outlook (for email), Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), and online collaboration tools (video conferencing, Zoom/Teams, messaging).
  • Strong team player with ability to interact with all levels of staff in the organization.
  • Strong ability to create systems for operational efficiency.
  • Detailed, accessible knowledge of accounting techniques, standards and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in written format and oral presentation.
  • Must possess analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, CPA or Master's Degree in related field or appropriate combination of education/experience preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in all facets of the Accounting cycle.
  • Experience in annual audits and audit requirements.
  • Knowledge of financial systems and computerized accounting software packages.

Responsibilities

  • Meets accounting operational standards by contributing financial information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying system improvements.
  • Supports annual audit by providing information and answers to auditors.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains financial security by adhering to internal controls.
  • Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Provide account analysis as requested in a timely manner, conforming to Safer standards assigned.
  • Recommend and implement system changes and upgrades.
  • Recruit staff and facilitate training and professional development.
  • Maintains cash flow by monitoring bank balances and cash requirements; investing excess funds.
  • Approves ledger entries by auditing transactions.
  • Open and close accounting periods in the accounting system.
  • Meets accounting financial standards by providing accounting department annual budget information; monitoring expenditures; identifying variances; implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure that applications for tax exempt status, indirect cost proposal, unclaimed property, etc. are completed within applicable deadlines.
  • Conduct internal audits thoroughly and with sufficient frequency to safeguard Safer.
  • Accomplishes objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and procedures.
