The Senior Staff Accountant position is located at the Corporate Office in Irvine, CA. This is a full-time role with working hours from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role involves various finance and accounting functions including monthly account reconciliations, assisting management in the month and year-end closing process, reviewing and analyzing net asset accounts, debt and investment accounts, and maintaining fixed asset accounts along with general ledger maintenance functions.

  • Responsible for monthly account reconciliations and assisting management in the month and year-end closing process.
  • Review and analyze net asset accounts and debt and investment accounts.
  • Maintain fixed asset accounts and perform assigned general ledger maintenance functions.
  • Review general ledger account balances and perform analytical procedures to correct as needed; prepare accurate and timely journal entries.
  • Complete and prepare account reconciliations, including bank accounts and balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare fixed asset schedules and review accounts for capitalization.
  • Prepare cost allocation tables.
  • Assist the Controller and Accounting Supervisor with the month-end and year-end closing process.
  • Reconcile any investment activities for the period.
  • Analyze all debt, notes payable, and mortgage accounts; post any unrecorded interest and principal outstanding; reconcile to statements received from sources of financing.
  • Calculate short-term and long-term, as well as 5-year maturity schedules required for financial reporting.
  • Maintain schedule of net assets with and without donor restrictions.
  • Obtain any required documentation to support restrictions, releases from restrictions, etc.
  • Prepare any required adjustments to net assets with and without donor restrictions.
  • Prepare related footnotes and supporting schedules for financial reporting.
  • Prepare bimonthly general ledger import from the payroll system to the accounting system and prepare additional payroll-related journal entries as needed.
  • Support grant audits and annual audits as requested.
  • Complete tasks as assigned for month-end close process.
  • Prepare annual business property tax filings.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Bachelor's Degree required in Accounting or related field.
  • 3-5 years of related accounting experience, preferably in grant-based or cost center-based accounting.
  • Thorough knowledge of budgeting and financial control and government reimbursement claims.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and knowledge of server-based accounting software applications.
  • Excellent analytical ability.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with directors, program directors, and funding source contract managers.
  • Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) qualified employer.
