About The Position

The organization manages the provincial power grid in real-time, oversees and evolves Ontario’s electricity market, engages with government, municipalities, and Indigenous communities, and plans for future electricity needs. This role supports the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organization’s Information Governance (IG) program and Information Architecture (IA) framework. It supports the proper structuring, protection, and management of information throughout its lifecycle to meet compliance requirements, operational needs, and emerging technology demands—ultimately advancing AI readiness through reliable, well governed information.

Requirements

  • Knowledge in Information Governance and Information Architecture principles and practices specifically with Information structure, tools and equipment pertinent to Information lifecycle management processes, including classification schemes, file plans, Retention management, access management, storage requirements, metadata management etc.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and internationally recognized best practices for IG and Records Management e.g. ARMA International, AIIM, ISO-15485, etc.
  • Successful completion of a 4-year University education in Information Studies, Information Science, Information Architecture or a related field of study.
  • Theoretical and practical working knowledge of M365 information protection and administration, in particular with Purview – information classification and labelling, retention policies and labels.
  • Knowledge of project management strategies and concepts.
  • Knowledge of business analysis strategies and concepts.
  • 8 - 10 years of progressive experience in Information Governance, Information Architecture, or Compliance roles, with at least 3-5 years focused on Microsoft 365 governance.
  • Hands on experience designing and operationalizing IG policy, retention schedules, classification schemes, files plans and metadata/taxonomy frameworks.
  • Direct, practical experience with Microsoft 365 governance including Microsoft Purview (e.g., Sensitivity Labels, Retention, Sensitive Information Types), SharePoint/Teams information architecture, and site provisioning approaches.
  • Proven experience with data visualization and developing and implementing compliance reporting and dashboards (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, advanced Excel skills).
  • Working knowledge of risk, privacy, and regulatory considerations and how they map to IG controls.
  • Understanding of digital workplace trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information management processes to stakeholders with varying levels of expertise while seamlessly bridging the gap between business and IT.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, facilitation) and ability to influence without authority across functions.
  • Practical involvement with AI Readiness and responsible AI practices.
  • Experience with analyzing business processes, identifying and implementing process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and evolution of a robust enterprise Information Governance (IG) Program, embedding IG by Design principles into systems, processes, and initiatives.
  • Partner with IT, Legal, Risk, Compliance, and business teams to ensure IG requirements, including AI readiness, privacy, and responsible use, are incorporated into new and existing systems.
  • Support policy, program, and change management activities, including updating governance documentation and contributing to training and adoption efforts.
  • Design and maintain standardized, scalable Information Architecture (classification schemes, metadata models, retention schedules, sensitivity labels, and taxonomies) aligned with business goals and regulatory obligations.
  • Lead initiatives to optimize retention, disposition, and lifecycle controls, including remediation of content sprawl, duplication, and misfiled sensitive information.
  • Collaborate with IT and stakeholders to embed IA elements into enterprise systems and operational processes.
  • Contribute to the M365 roadmap and governance framework, including Microsoft Purview and Copilot deployment.
  • Translate business, regulatory, and security requirements into standardized governance and IA designs (e.g., provisioning, metadata, access controls, retention, sensitivity labels).
  • Support adoption through use case development, training materials, QA/testing support, and transition to sustainable operational ownership.
  • Partner with Information Security to respond to IG related alerts, incidents, audit findings, and policy violations.
  • Design an enterprise IG compliance monitoring framework, including KPIs and metrics across M365 and legacy platforms.
  • Build and transition interactive dashboards that provide visibility into overall IG health and remediation actions.
  • Stay current with Microsoft 365 roadmap updates, emerging IG capabilities, and industry best practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement through process optimization, data driven insights, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Serve as the IG/IA subject matter expert on corporate initiatives, ensuring governance requirements are embedded in systems and business processes.
  • Provide expert guidance to business units, project teams, and working groups on IG best practices and solutions.
  • Contribute expert input to internal committees, cross functional initiatives, and external benchmarking activities.
  • Perform other related duties as required to support the success of the Information Governance Program.
