About The Position

The Equipment Integrity SME serves as the technical authority for pressure equipment and mechanical integrity within Cenovus Energy’s downstream business. This role leads to the development and oversight of mechanical integrity programs to ensure regulatory compliance, asset protection, and safe operations, while partnering with engineering, operations, project teams, and leadership to provide expert guidance and strategic solutions. Relocation required and provided to Ohio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical Materials Science, or related discipline) with deep technical specialization in mechanical integrity.
  • 15+ years of downstream or energy-sector experience, with 10+ years providing technical leadership for mechanical integrity programs in refining, petrochemical, power, or oil and gas operations.
  • Recognized subject matter expertise in mechanical integrity standards and regulations, including API 510/570/653, API 579/ASME FFS-1, ASME, and OSHA PSM.
  • Demonstrated expert-level capability in failure analysis, corrosion mechanisms, risk-based inspection (RBI), and NDT experience for FFS assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain corporate mechanical integrity standards, policies, and procedures in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry codes (API, ASME, OSHA).
  • Serve as the technical authority for pressure equipment integrity, including inspections, failure analysis, fitness-for-service (FFS), and risk-based inspection (RBI).
  • Establish and apply risk assessment methodologies to identify, evaluate, and mitigate integrity threats for fixed equipment, piping, and tanks.
  • Ensure mechanical integrity compliance across all facilities and support internal and external audits, including management of corrective actions.
  • Lead mechanical integrity training, competency, and qualification programs for engineers and inspectors, and mentor site-level integrity leadership.
  • Lead the Mechanical Integrity Community of Practice and represent Cenovus on industry committees (API, AFPM, ASME) to drive continuous improvement and adoption of best practices
