About The Position

Join Cenovus Energy as a Senior Specialist, Downstream Applied Risk, where you will lead and drive a world-class risk management strategy within our downstream business. We are seeking a remarkably skilled specialist with deep expertise in downstream operations and applied risk concepts. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and protection of our assets and people through flawless integration of risk management processes. Preference given to individuals who currently reside in or can relocate to the Ohio area.

Requirements

• Legally authorized to work in the US.
• 20+ years of proven experience in downstream refining operations.
• 10+ years of specialized expertise in risk management, process safety engineering, or operations leadership.
• Extensive experience within relevant operating companies, with a strong focus on risk management and operational leadership.
• Demonstrated leadership in driving transformational change in risk management processes and operational practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead the integration of risk management into Cenovus's Downstream Reliability Model (Design Right, Maintain Right, Operate Right) to drive operational excellence and process improvement.
• Collaborate across Operational Excellence, Technical & Projects, HSSE, and other teams to define and implement risk management best practices.
• Develop and implement a risk management capability program, including training, competency development, and succession planning for Downstream operations.
• Engage with leadership networks and stakeholders to share knowledge, align risk processes, and ensure consistent application of risk management strategies.
• Oversee the integration of risk management practices into daily operations, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement across sites.
• Establish KPIs for risk management processes, track progress, and identify areas for improvement.
• Lead incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement preventive actions across Downstream assets.
• Support talent development by mentoring and coaching employees, fostering growth, innovation, and alignment with Cenovus's goals.
