About The Position

As the premier provider of Space Domain Awareness (SDA) mission solutions for the United States Space Force, L3Harris is seeking a skilled Database Engineer to support our Command and Control (C2) Product Line. The successful candidate will be responsible for fielding relational and non-relational databases across multiple software programs, ensuring optimal performance, security, and integrity of our database systems. This position is onsite in Colorado Springs, CO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • Active U.S. DoD Secret security clearance.
  • 5 years of experience as a Database Engineer or similar role.
  • Proven experience with database management systems such as Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
  • Proven experience with database design, normalization, and schema creation.
  • Experience with database performance tuning, troubleshooting, and query optimization.
  • Experience with containerized database operators/cluster managers.
  • Experience with replication, database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Strong understanding of SQL.
  • Knowledge of non-relational databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or others.
  • Knowledge of best practices in database security.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with different levels of management and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Active U.S. DoD Top Secret security clearance.
  • Experience with Postgres in a VMware Kubernetes Services/VMware Tanzu environment.
  • Experience with cloud-based database services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Experience with database administration in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or Bash.
  • Excellent people skills, with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation).
  • Active Security+ CE Certification

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain database systems for high availability and performance.
  • Optimize database structures for efficiency and effectiveness in supporting complex queries and data retrieval.
  • Ensure database security measures are in place and up-to-date in compliance with ITAR and EAR regulations.
  • Collaborate with software development teams to integrate databases with existing systems.
  • Conduct regular tests and troubleshooting to ensure databases are error-free and operate reliably.
  • Document the database setup, architecture, and procedures for maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Responsible for providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees.
  • Manages complex projects or processes with general oversight.
  • Communicates within and outside of own function or business area and has responsibility for communicating with parties external to the organization.
  • Up to 10% travel may be required.
