About The Position
The Senior Specialist, Community Affairs at DC Water plays a vital role in the Office of Marketing and Communications, particularly in response to emergencies or significant service disruptions. This position is responsible for informing the public about DC Water's construction activities through various communication channels, including project information sheets, press materials, technical briefs, educational materials, and social media. The incumbent will engage with DC Water customers, community leaders, government officials, and other stakeholders to promote the mission of DC Water and ensure effective communication regarding ongoing and upcoming construction projects. The role involves managing all construction outreach activities, which includes collaborating closely with the Department of Engineering and Technical Services (DETS) to create detailed project information sheets for each Capital Improvement construction project. These sheets are typically prepared 30-120 days before the start of construction and are disseminated to affected community stakeholders, including residents, local government representatives, and civic associations. The incumbent will also coordinate the hand delivery of printed materials and ensure that project information is accessible on the DC Water website. In addition to managing outreach materials, the Senior Specialist will serve as a community liaison throughout all phases of construction projects, addressing inquiries and concerns from the community. This includes attending bi-weekly construction progress meetings, resolving customer concerns received through various channels, and exploring innovative ways to publicize construction projects. The role requires participation in public outreach events, which may occur after hours or on weekends, and involves logistical coordination for these events. The position demands a proactive approach to community engagement, ensuring that stakeholders are informed and educated about the necessity of construction projects aimed at revitalizing the district's aging water and sewer infrastructure. The Senior Specialist will also provide outreach support to various internal departments and consult on press materials and social media content related to construction outreach.
