KBR is seeking a Systems Space Systems Engineer to join our team in San Diego, CA. This role offers a hybrid work schedule.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in satellite systems engineering.
  • Strong understanding of the space domain.
  • Experience with MUOS or similar satellite systems is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding of both space and ground domains, including cryptographic systems.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Expert ability to identify, assess, and communicate technical and programmatic risks.
  • Experience with satellite, ground, and cryptographic systems and sustainment operations.
  • Knowledge of military satellite communications systems and protocols.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for satellite systems engineering.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, Space Operations, or Physics.
  • Active Secret security clearance is required to start; TS/SCI security clearance desired.

Responsibilities

  • Support the U.S. Space Force's Space Systems Command (SSC) as a critical technical liaison across space and ground segments.
  • Lead efforts in risk management, cryptographic compatibility, system lifecycle planning, and technical coordination among diverse stakeholders.
  • Maintain continuity, institutional knowledge, and mission assurance throughout program phases and personnel transitions.
  • Advise leadership, support certification and accreditation efforts, and contribute to the long-term evolution of the Space Control Segment.
  • Lead ground and space systems integration, cryptographic compatibility, and mission assurance.
  • Provide support from pre-launch integration planning to vendor oversight during early development phases.
  • Interface with multiple stakeholders to ensure integrated alignment.
  • Provide continuity amid government personnel turnover.
  • Support and collaborate with the space engineering team to provide operational and sustainment subject matter expertise.
  • Serve as a bridge between various engineering and logistics units.
  • Support identification, clarification, and codification of technical and programmatic risks.
  • Ensure synchronization with engineering teams and assess system security and safety efforts.
  • Provide orbital analysis support, including collision avoidance and station keeping.
  • Maintain awareness and parity across vendors and review technical documents.
  • Collaborate on writing contract task orders and assist with quarterly reviews.
  • Monitor and assess impacts of changes in organizational structure.
