The University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown (located at 500 E. Market Street, Iowa City, IA) Radiology Department is looking to hire for one position at either the Sonographer, Pay Grade 5, or Sr. Sonographer, Pay Grade 7, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Perform complex procedures at an advanced level that requires independent judgment and initiative in order to obtain information for use by physicians in diagnosing and treating patient illness; participate in teaching, evaluating, and advising fellows, residents, and medical students. Requirements

  • CAAHEP accredited or equivalent program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Vascular Technology, or
  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography
  • Extensive (3-5 years) progressively responsible experience in diagnostic medical sonography
  • Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or other nationally recognized accreditation organizations for primary specialty.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience providing clinical education to students and sonographers and residents.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Radiation Sciences is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains and documents a comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and developmental health history; performs and documents complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment, and plan of care.
  • In collaboration, provides healthcare services for primary, acute, and complex care of patients and manages patient's overall care, initiates appropriate referrals and consultations, and identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
  • Orders, performs, interprets, and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
  • Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions.
  • Prescribes therapeutic interventions both pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic and surgical/procedural, needed to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Utilizes evidence-based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care.
  • Provides specialty specific consultation services upon request and within specialty scope of practice.
  • Facilitates the patient’s transition between and within health care settings, such as admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
