About The Position

The Senior Solutions Engineer will be responsible for evaluating technical requirements from potential customers, either via RFPs or direct outreach. This role will partner with members of the sales team for each potential opportunity and will coordinate with design, development, and operations resources to gather information, specifications, drawings, and other pertinent information in support of responding to RFPs and/or providing proposals for customers, as well as work with Marketing to develop technical content for sales presentations, industry events, publications, and online resources. This position will provide extremely relevant experience for recent entrants into the data center industry. It is intended as a development gateway to more senior positions in Design, Solutions Engineering and Project/Construction Management, and will be supported and mentored by senior design, engineering, construction, and operations staff members.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in the data center industry (colocation, hyperscale, or mission-critical environments) with exposure to sales engineering, design, construction, or operations
  • Must be highly proficient in MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint/SharePoint/Teams
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Visio/Bluebeam a plus
  • Must be able to collaborate with other team members both in-person and remotely
  • Must be self-motivated and able to prioritize workloads based on deliverable due dates, customer-facing vs. internal deliverables, etc.
  • Light travel may be required

Responsibilities

  • As part of an internal response team, receive, evaluate, and respond to Sales Engineering items on RFPs and RFIs
  • Gather site and equipment spec sheets, drawings, and other technical documentation required for responses
  • Participate in live or video conference meetings to clarify or present material about data center offerings
  • Attend data center industry events to understand customer requirements, industry developments, supplier technology, and capabilities
  • Travel to company sites and OEM facilities to facilitate strong relationships between the company and site contractors and suppliers
  • Collect, manage, and update internal library of RFP questions/answers and specification documents that are regularly used for response documents
  • Contribute to and manage PowerPoint documents for Sales Engineering-specific subject matter
  • Maintain list of available capacity/footprint at existing company facilities
  • Maintain a list of potential development properties and acquisitions, and the status of each
  • Self-paced training to gain knowledge of MEP systems, civil and structural engineering, architecture, and commissioning as they result to data center development
  • Self-paced training to gain knowledge on facility BMS/EPMS/DCIM systems and security operational process and policy
  • Coordinate with company procurement specialist to summarize anticipated vs. required vs. ordered OFCI equipment, and impacts to current sales opportunities and/or site developments
  • Monitor project costs and schedule against contractual commitments
  • Attend regular Development status meetings and provide weekly summary of progress and issues to Sales to align on business objectives
  • Work with design team to understand category spend management opportunities, supply market and commodity trends, typical KPI’s for designers, contractors and professional service providers
  • Help develop RFP packages for design and contracting services and help coordinate competitive sourcing events to ensure structuring of commercial value, risk mitigation, and performances requirements are secured in a contract to protect the company’s interests
  • Monitor market supply chain conditions and anticipate needs of various projects to ensure ordering of OFCI equipment for just-in-time delivery to meet company timelines
  • Ensure the most up-to-date design standards are distributed to the OFCI suppliers to deliver the products as specified
  • Obtain OFCI equipment submittals to support the design, specification, and process approval for each assigned project as needed
