The Protected Communication Systems (PCS) Software (SW) Engineering Department has an opportunity for a talented Software Engineering Section Manager to join our team. As a Section Manager, in addition to managing a team, you will be expected to fill a role on one of our programs such developer, architect, or task lead. As a Front-Line Leader (FLL), you will be responsible for working with other Software Engineering Section Managers and Leads to ensure the proper staffing and execution of programs and proposals. The Section Manager is also responsible for the performance and career development of all the members of the section, providing open and honest feedback to section members, developing talent, and ensuring adequate resources to meet the skill set demands of our programs. The candidate will be a highly motivated “self-starter” able to lead by example, possessing strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Section Managers are also expected to perform Key roles on Programs and perform special assignments as needed.

Requirements

  • Recent experience in Software Engineering to include experience working various phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience with C++, C, Java, Python, or related languages.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment that requires multi-level communication with other engineering, program, and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Agile/Lean development techniques.
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience.
  • Active and transferable Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Software Project Lead, Product Owner or Scrum Master and leading teams and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Experience spanning the design, implementation, testing, and integration of real-time embedded software
  • Ability to solve technical problems through drawing from prior experience and analysis of issues and to work with hardware and systems engineering to solve multi-discipline issues.
  • Practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of projects, including work scheduling, staffing, earn-value management, software cost estimation, prioritizing, coaching and process execution.
  • Previous experience with UNIX, Linux, VxWorks, INTEGRITY, SYSBIOS, or other RTOS and associated IDEs and development tools.

Responsibilities

  • Managing a mid-sized team (typically 10 -20 employees) consisting of experienced professionals and more junior employees with focus on technical excellence, execution & implementation.
  • Leading, directing and reviewing the work of the team while respecting the team member’s ability to exercise latitude and independence.
  • Managing staffing, hiring, promotion and rewards within the team.
  • Providing technical input to new products, processes and standards and ensuring that new approaches are implemented by the team.
