About The Position

Senior Software Engineering Manager, Vertical Lift Company: The Boeing Company Boeing is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead development of mission-critical embedded software for our Attack Vertical Lift programs in Mesa, AZ , supporting Apache AH-64 and AH-6 Little Bird platforms. The Vertical Lift Software team is responsible for developing the complete real-time embedded mission software to implement Communications, Controls and Displays, Navigation, Aircraft Survivability, Aircraft Systems Management, Weapons, and Sights functional requirements in an integrated environment for the crew. Mission Software also develops and maintains the verification automated testing. The team’s responsibilities span the full product lifecycle of all activities from proposal development through aircraft fielding and resolution of field issues. The Senior Manager will lead a software engineering team responsible for software and tool development for AH-6 and Apache AH-64. The successful candidate will be responsible for integrating team activities with the other Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and across numerous programs (Contracts, US Army and International), own day-to-day staffing and resource planning, drive personnel development and skills readiness, and ensure technical, cost, schedule, and quality objectives are met. The Senior Manager will also support proposal efforts, including Requests for Information (RFIs) and Requests for Proposal (RFPs), produce technical and non-technical documentation and estimates, and serve on the Attack Mission Systems (AMS) Oversight team to review technical approaches, build plans, project status, proposal inputs, and program administration.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance
  • 10+ years’ experience in Software Engineering
  • 3+ years’ experience in a leadership or management role
  • 1+ years of experience as a first line manager

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • Advanced degree in engineering, AI, data science, or related field
  • Experience in software product life cycles specific to aviation and aerospace systems, from proposal through fielding

Responsibilities

  • Manages, develops, and motivates employees and first-level managers performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Software Engineering.
  • Develops and executes integrated departmental plans, policies and procedures and provides input on departmental business and technical strategies, goals, objectives.
  • Acquires resources for department activities, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements.
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports.
  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes.
  • Additional responsibilities include maintaining overall tools and processes, supporting ongoing process improvements via CMMI and Scaled Agile, coordinating software customer interface, and supporting avionics architecture development.
