About The Position

Role summary: We are looking for a Senior DevOps Software Engineer to join our growing Platform team. Your focus will be on building applications that are easier to deploy, quicker to rollback, more reliable, and faster to move into production. You will work with developers to integrate and streamline development workflows, review design/code, and provide feedback to ensure best practices are followed. You will collaborate with development teams to improve the deployment, management, monitoring, and troubleshooting of our cloud-based services. In this role, it is important to help improve the experiences of development teams and the overall engineering culture of the company. About the team: Our team enables Walmart to scale efficiently by delivering standardized platforms, processes, and services focused on operability, security, reliability, and governance. We emphasize engineering engagement and streamlined workflows to embed better practices by default. Collaboration and support drive the development of scalable platform products using leading technologies such as OpenTelemetry, Terraform, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, Python, and cloud services including Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure. The team is committed to continuous improvement, ensuring high performance and developer productivity while maintaining cost-effective and secure solutions aligned with business objectives.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience with software development; fluent in multiple programming languages
  • 2 years of experience in large-scale infrastructure design, development, deployment, and maintenance; experience in distributed systems and networking
  • Deep understanding of cloud-based infrastructure and tools e.g. GCP/Azure
  • Experienced with Docker, Argo, Helm, Terraform, and Kubernetes
  • Able to create automation pipelines quickly and with care
  • In-depth knowledge of networking, security, observability, operating systems, and incident management concepts
  • Understands SRE principles; has DevOps mindset
  • Enjoys pair programming with other teams and is willing to work in another team’s codebase and respect their space
  • Experience in debugging complex problems and problem-solving under pressure; enthusiastic about taking on new problems
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, deploy, test, automate, maintain, and enhance products, tooling and system solutions for cloud-based infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code such as Terraform, CI/CD tools, Kubernetes, and scripting with languages like Python
  • Huddle, collaborate, and parachute into codebases with developers
  • Review design/code and provide feedback to ensure best practices are followed
  • Contribute to and maintain existing documentation including educational content, system architecture diagrams, post-mortems, and runbooks
  • Participate in weekly support rotations where you will be the front line for helping developers with one off requests
  • Present DevOps concepts across engineering
  • Triage application and system issues
  • Contribute to scrum process improvement; mentor team members; manage project priorities, deadlines and deliverables
