About The Position
Wing is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Uncrewed Air Traffic Management engineering team. This role is hybrid based in Palo Alto, California. We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our high-velocity software engineering team, meet the compliance requirements of aviation regulators and shape the future of the drone delivery industry. You'll work on complex challenges at the forefront of aviation and technology, helping to get Wing's drone delivery into the hands of more partners and customers. A successful candidate will be able to identify areas in need of investment, set solution strategy, influence team direction, and have direct impact through their technical contributions, cutting through ambiguity, and designing and building complex systems. This is a critical role that influences our software development lifecycle and ensures our architecture meets the highest standards for safety and regulatory assurance.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in Software Engineering
- Deep technical understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and modern engineering practices in a scalable environment
- Demonstrated experience with a highly regulated industry (e.g., Aviation, Defense, Medical Devices)
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to distill complex technical and regulatory information into clear, concise documentation and internal policies
- A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a similar degree (or equivalent experience)
- Proficiency in C++, or ability to quickly pick up C++ with experience in similar languages like Java, or C
Responsibilities
- Engineering Design & Development: Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain large-scale, distributed software systems including: asynchronous pipelines, database systems, RPC handlers in collaboration with frontend engineers and backend engineers, in a privacy and security conscious ecosystem.
- Navigate Ambiguity: Investigate and build software in areas with limited expertise and make an immediate impact.
- Incident Response & On-Call: Participate in an on-call rotation to address urgent production issues, troubleshoot complex problems, and implement long-term solutions.
- Engineering Compliance Documentation: Lead the drafting, technical review, and maintenance of essential regulatory compliance documents (e.g., Software Assurance, Development Lifecycle, Safety artifacts) from a deep, technical engineering perspective.
- Cross-Functional Communication: Partner closely with internal Product, Safety, and Program teams to seamlessly integrate engineering requirements into the overall compliance strategy.
- Team Culture: Contribute to a team culture of support, engagement and quality, ensuring Wing can scale as a business.
