About The Position

We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and operate high-performance data ETL pipelines using Java, Python, and cloud technologies (GCP/Azure). You'll be a technical leader who drives end-to-end delivery, mentors engineers, and ensures operational excellence for data systems processing millions of transactions per second. About Team: Building the right technology foundation for Infrastructure & platforms is vital to success at the scale of Walmart. Our team builds and maintains the foundational technologies that support the tech organization. Included in this are data platforms, enterprise architecture, DevOps, cloud computing, and infrastructure. All of these products and services are supported by scalable and powerful infrastructure, ensuring a secure and seamless employee and customer experience across stores, digital channels, and distribution centers. What you'll do: Design & build scalable backend services — Architect and implement robust ETL systems using Java and Python on GCP/Azure that handle Walmart-scale traffic and data volumes. Lead technical delivery — Own end-to-end feature development from requirements through production, making sound architectural decisions and driving code quality through design and code reviews. Drive operational excellence — Participate in on-call rotations, lead incident response and COE analysis, automate repetitive production issues, and maintain system health metrics. Collaborate cross-functionally — Partner with Product Managers, Architects, and other teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions and deliver high-impact projects. Mentor and enable the team — Guide junior and mid-level engineers on best practices, help unblock technical challenges, and elevate the team's overall engineering capabilities. Requirements

  • Strong data engineering skills — Mastery in Java or Python, experience with high-throughput ETL pipelines and data processing at scale, and proficiency with GCP and/or Azure cloud platforms.
  • Experience building at scale — Proven track record designing and operating data systems that handle millions of TPS, with strong debugging and performance optimization abilities.
  • Operational mindset — Comfortable with on-call rotations, incident management, and driving automation to improve system reliability and reduce toil.
  • Technical leadership — Ability to lead medium-to-large projects, mentor engineers, and make sound design decisions in collaboration with architects.
  • Clear communication — Can articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and work effectively across teams.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related field
