About The Position

In this role, you will design, build, and maintain high-impact services that deliver Wikimedia content to organizations at scale. You will contribute to the long-term technical roadmap, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of data feeds used by high-volume consumers. Working within a globally distributed, startup-like engineering team, you will tackle complex technical challenges while fostering collaboration across product and infrastructure teams. Your work will influence how content is accessed, reused, and integrated worldwide, directly impacting billions of users. Requirements

  • Proven experience in supporting complex web applications on cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and distributed systems (Kafka or similar).
  • Strong proficiency in Node.js and Go, along with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Ruby.
  • Experience with configuration management, orchestration tools (ECS, Kubernetes), and observability infrastructure (monitoring, metrics, logging).
  • Solid understanding of Linux/Unix fundamentals and debugging in production environments.
  • Comfort working in semi-ambiguous, fast-paced, and startup-like environments.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a globally distributed team.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.

  • Open source contributions, non-cloud infrastructure experience, startup experience, or multilingual fluency.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, deploy, and maintain highly reliable data feeds and services for large-scale content distribution.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to plan, implement, and execute the technical roadmap.
  • Design scalable infrastructure, architect new services, and optimize existing systems to ensure high performance.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues across the application stack and production infrastructure.
  • Participate in incident response, diagnosis, and follow-up for system outages or alerts.
  • Contribute to best practices, tooling, and automation to improve operational efficiency and system reliability.
  • Share knowledge and mentor team members on software engineering and infrastructure standards.
