As a Senior Software Engineer – Team Lead, you will be part of the Account Engineering department within Product Engineering. Account Engineering is a team of 30+ tech savvy individuals who work together every day to deliver customer facing authentication solutions. This team is responsible for making logging in and signing up at CARFAX a secure, consistent, and high-quality experience for CARFAX customers, as well as managing user profiles, Pll data and compliance, CARFAX websites' global header and footer, Universal Car Garage, user behavioural tracking, and user personalization for messaging and front-end experiences. This includes managing and customizing third party authentication solutions while also building and maintaining custom authentication solutions to provide our customers with a great experience that fits our needs! This position will require 3 days per week in our Centreville, VA office subject to change with future business needs.

Requirements

  • Ability to provide leadership and mentor engineers through complicated technical challenges
  • Ability to give team members opportunities to grow by delegating tasks and not being a “superhero”
  • Ability to give team members feedback and coaching on technical skill gaps necessary for growth
  • Ability to work and collaborate effectively in a pod-matrix environment as well as independently
  • Experience with modern front-end JavaScript libraries (such as ReactJS, Vue, or Angular)
  • Experience with JavaScript, NodeJS, TypeScript, HTML5 and CSS3
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash
  • Experience with Continuous Integration / Delivery such as Gitlab CI/CD
  • Experience with Containerization (Docker)
  • Experience with Object oriented concepts and languages such as TypeScript , Java, Kotlin
  • Experience with Relational and NoSQL database systems such as MySQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch
  • Experience with developing in a cloud environment (AWS preferred)
  • Experience in full SDLC development including design, building, testing, deployment, upgrades and support
  • Experience with application monitoring and alerting systems and standards (such as New Relic, OTEL, CloudWatch, ITIL, Prometheus, PagerDuty)
  • Experience with being On Call and its general expectation
  • Experience with AI Coding tools (such as GitHub Copilot)
  • Knowledge of client/server architecture and building APIs and web services
  • Knowledge of coding best practices for security and performance
  • Loves to learn!

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Authentication / Authorization systems
  • Experience with microservice architecture
  • Experience with SEO and/or mobile development
  • Knowledge of Full Stack software development
  • Built large-scale, common applications or services that enrich multiple products
  • Supported applications in multiple markets and time zones and languages (e.g. Canada)
  • Agile software development including Test Driven Development and Pair Programming
  • Experience with OAuth2.0, OIDC, or other modern authentication frameworks and conventions
  • Experience with A/B testing
  • Experience and curiosity with AI/ML concepts and tooling (AWS preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Working in a dynamic, agile, matrix environment supporting high-use, modern applications
  • Mentor team members by offering regular feedback on code, team performance and growth opportunities.
  • Lead design decisions, including new technology research and prototyping
  • Collaborating closely with other developers, Architects, UX designers, Project and Product Managers, support teams and other stakeholders
  • Promoting high quality and adequate software design through a disciplined development methodology
  • Augmenting and adjusting team processes and practices towards continuous improvement
  • Documenting processes, architecture, maintenance, actions and decisions
  • Ensuring adequate NFRs are implemented and updated throughout the application lifecycle
