About The Position

Space is a critical domain, connecting our technologies, our security and our humanity. While others view space as a destination, we see it as a realm of possibilities, where we can do more — we can innovate, invest, inspire and integrate our capabilities to transform the future. At Lockheed Martin Space, we aim to harness the full potential of space to cultivate innovation, reduce costs, and push the boundaries of what technology can achieve. We’re creating future-ready solutions, focusing on resiliency and urgency through our 21st Century Security® vision. We’re erasing boundaries and forming partnerships across industries and around the world. We’re advancing spacecraft and the workforce to fuel the next generation. And we’re reimagining how space can connect us, ensuring security and prosperity. Lockheed Martin is leading the way in hypersonic missile development and we want you to be a part of it! We are creating the first hypersonic boost/glide system for the US Army and Navy here on the Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) program, and our NGC-SW Integrated Product Team (IPT) is responsible for the algorithms and software that control it. Our group includes the Navigation, Guidance, and Control (NG&C or GN&C) subsystem, which flies the missile and glide body, and the embedded Flight Software (FSW) which hosts the NG&C algorithms and provides health, status, and sequencing for the entire system. Additionally, we develop and maintain the Flight Software testbeds (HILs or HWILs) which provide complete hardware integration testing with feedback and flight simulation to test the NG&C algorithms and flight software. Lockheed Martin is seeking a senior software engineer support the development and verification of formal software requirements for the hypersonic missile’s Flight Software (FSW) and Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) systems, ensuring compliance with stringent aerospace standards and mission critical performance. The role involves collaborating with system architects, safety engineers, and test teams to translate high level mission objectives into precise, verifiable software specifications and supporting model based development processes. The incumbent will maintain compliance of the existing FSW with the mature requirements baseline, manage change control, and drive the evolution and growth of the requirements set throughout the system’s lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Experience defining verification plans, traceability matrices, and conducting formal reviews/inspections for high‑assurance software.
  • Hands‑on experience in embedded C/C++ and familiarity with hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HWIL) test frameworks.
  • Proven proficiency with formal specification tools and model‑based development environments
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding of hypersonic missile architecture, Guidance‑Navigation‑Control (GNC) algorithms, and flight‑software (FSW) development cycles.
  • Proven track record integrating requirements management tools (IBM DOORS, Jama, Polarion) with source‑code repositories and CI/CD pipelines for automated traceability.
  • Demonstrated experience working on complex, tightly coupled hardware‑software platforms (e.g., flight‑control computers, sensor suites, or missile air‑frame integration) where software behavior directly influences hardware performance and vice‑versa, including participation in hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HWIL) testing, board‑level debugging, and cross‑disciplinary trade‑off analyses.
  • An active DoD Secret clearance
