The Storage Content team is the backbone of storage and encryption at Box. We manage the entire corpus of customer content and key material, powering the critical infrastructure that all content at Box flows through. Our team owns several foundational services of the Box Content Cloud, including the core upload and download pipelines used by millions of users every day. We operate at exabyte scale, solving complex challenges around performance, reliability, and scalability—especially as Box continues to expand and integrate with emerging products like Microsoft Coauthoring and Box AI. As stewards of some of the most mission-critical systems at Box, we're deeply invested in operational excellence and reliability best practices. Yet, we've only scratched the surface of what's possible. That's where you come in. As we embark on the mission to deliver best in class performance and reliability for our customers, both internal and external, we're looking for a Senior Engineer to join us and play a pivotal role. You'll have the opportunity to work with a small team of talented, collaborative and fun engineers, solving some of the toughest challenges. The work you do will have an immediate impact on the productivity of some of the most important enterprises of our time.

Requirements

  • You have 4+ years of professional software development experience.
  • You have extensive experience deploying and operating microservices in a cloud environment.
  • You have a proven track record of building services and/or tooling using languages such as Java, Go, Scala, or Python as necessary.
  • Strong problem solving skills and a desire to learn new things.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Experience deploying and operating microservices on Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems and content streaming.
  • Familiarity with metrics based monitoring and alerting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and implementation efforts for new components of our platform.
  • Design and implement scalable services with a focus on reliability, observability, operability and efficiency.
  • Work with cutting-edge technologies like Kubernetes, Docker, BigTable, Elasticsearch, Spark and Istio.
  • Be heavily involved in setting the platform vision and defining feature roadmaps.
  • Mentor other engineers and contribute to team growth and development.
  • Strengthen engineering processes, principles, and culture within the team by championing a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in our on-call rotation, available at all times while on-call to help respond to and triage any issues that arise.
