About the position

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is a leader in technologically advanced and intelligent solutions for the global aerospace and defense industry. The Command Control Communications Cyber Intelligence & Autonomy (C4IA) Software Technologies Center is seeking a Team Leader/Senior Manager to lead members of our software development team located onsite in St. Petersburg, FL. Our teams develop software in a variety of languages, primarily C++. This position includes an individual contributor workload where you can expect to work on many if not all the phases of the software development life cycle. In this position, you will be responsible for providing practical solutions to difficult technical software problems. Software Engineering positions include working on a variety of different tasks including real-time software development, application software development, test and verification, data analysis, software tools development, and many others. Teams are organized using Agile scrum methodology.

Responsibilities

  • Perform management activities and provide leadership for approximately 10-15 software engineers.
  • Team with the Department Leader in the execution of C4IA Capabilities and Collins Aerospace Engineering goals.
  • Ensure two-way communication for the section members; serve as the day-to-day liaison to the programs concerning employee job assignments, performance, and recognition.
  • Coordinate program staffing needs and reductions, and interview applicants.
  • Lead and participate in the requirements, design, development and testing of application software and tools.
  • Design, code, test, integrate, and document software solutions.
  • Lead and participate in internal review of software components and systems.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other professionals within Engineering.
  • Follow established development practices and processes to maintain the configuration management of software products.

Requirements

  • Experience developing C/C++ and Object-oriented software designs and code in a team-based development environment, preferably Agile/SCRUM, DevSecOps and test automation.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, including ability to produce technical documentation, and the desire to learn new technologies and tools.
  • Demonstrated success in prior leadership roles.
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current Top Secret clearance is preferred.
  • Knowledge of data structures and algorithms, systems software design, operating systems, architectures, software development life cycle and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with coworkers from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues who represent a diversity of work and conflict resolution styles.
  • Experience with EVMS (earned value management systems) or similar.
