About The Position

Verily, a subsidiary of Alphabet, uses a data-driven approach to transform health management and healthcare delivery. Launched from Google X in 2015, its mission is to bring precision health to everyone daily by generating and activating data from various sources (clinical, social, behavioral, real-world) to find optimal solutions based on comprehensive evidence. Verily leverages its expertise in technology, data science, and healthcare to empower the entire healthcare ecosystem for better health outcomes. The Developer Platform team at Verily is responsible for building cloud-native, self-service developer infrastructure that supports the software development lifecycle for over 600 engineers. This team aims to provide a speedy, delightful, scalable, and secure developer journey through integrated capabilities in AI, IDE extensions, application templates, developer portals, CI/CD, and other functional areas. In this role, you will specifically work on the team’s self-service Groups Management product, collaborating with Security and Engineering teams, as managing access to cloud resources, data, and applications is a critical component of the software development process.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience in software engineering with 5+ years experience developing and maintaining reliable, scalable, and secure products and services in production in Go, Python, TypeScript, or similar programming languages.
  • Prior experience with cloud technologies: Google Cloud Platform/Amazon Web Services/Azure or other cloud providers, GitHub Actions, VSCode, Kubernetes, Backstage, or related tools.
  • Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and system design with strong analytical and debugging skills.
  • Strong communication skills in scenarios like deriving requirements from customers, articulating the scope of a problem, or documenting a proposed system design.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Identity & Access Management across GCP, Okta, Google Workspace.
  • Strong working knowledge of microservices, software delivery platforms, DevSecOps, continuous integration, and release management processes.
  • Experience working in a centralized developer platform team.
  • Passionate about developer experience with a high empathy for users.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical design and implementation for a significant product capability or set of capabilities.
  • Design and develop capabilities that leverage existing identity infrastructure (e.g. Okta).
  • Scope tasks and set priorities for team members as well as cross-functionally.
  • Drive execution through high-quality implementation and set an example of best practices in code health and production (e.g. monitoring, frequent releases, reliable CI).
  • Facilitate a rapidly growing team and organization by guiding junior engineers, setting high standards in design reviews, providing input into roadmaps, prioritization of user-facing features, and team processes.
