Collins Aerospace is looking to hire a highly motivated and talented Senior Software Engineer with a strong interest in the design, development and maintenance of embedded systems. The ideal candidate will be passionate about developing software solutions and solving complex problems, in support of the customer mission. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and validate software products. This position will sit at our Aguadilla, PR location. You must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered. This role is categorized as hybrid, with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote following the schedule assigned by the Manager.

  • Lead/Support the engineering team members as a subject matter expert in embedded software application development, through guidance and direction to one or more software engineers.
  • Investigate root cause of complex issues, and implement solutions, working independently or with a multi-discipline team.
  • Apply computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis concepts and principles in the development of software for the target hardware.
  • Work closely with cross functional members of the engineering organization to develop and evaluate interfaces between hardware and software, and operational performance requirements and design of the overall system.
  • Support and participate in all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, hardware-software integration, and formal test.
  • Develop software test plans and procedures, and other relevant technical documentation.
  • Utilize modeling tools and equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental tests, prototype, and evaluate results.
  • Participate in peer reviews, identify, track and repair defects.
  • Utilize a variety of software languages (primarily C/C++ and Python), implementing software for embedded real time operating systems.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance in software design, coding practices, and certification documentation.
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written).
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • Software and system-level debugging experience including the ability to identify problems in established code and make modifications as necessary.
  • Experience using Agile methodologies, Atlassian/Jira toolset for task management, automation tool solution, Junit, Linux command line, shell, or python scripting.
  • At least 4 years design and implementation experience with embedded software in C/C++.
  • At least 3 years Linux OS use, ideally for an embedded environment.
  • Object-oriented software development experience.
  • Agile Scrum development experience.
  • Ability to plan, track and report on progress.
  • CI/CD software Linux OS use, for an embedded environment.
