About The Position

WHOOP is hiring a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead the Business Systems engineering function. In this role, you will oversee multiple engineering teams responsible for building and maintaining the services, integrations, and tools that power WHOOP’s internal operations. You will partner with leaders across Finance, Operations, Member Services, and other business functions to deliver scalable, secure, and efficient systems that directly enable WHOOP’s growth. You will provide both strategic and technical leadership—driving long-term architecture decisions while cultivating an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience; advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 4+ years in engineering management with experience leading managers or multiple teams
  • Strong technical foundation in backend engineering, with experience in modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, Go)
  • Proven experience architecting and scaling APIs, integrations, and distributed systems
  • Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and enterprise business systems
  • Track record of aligning technical strategies with business objectives and delivering measurable impact
  • Demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and scale engineering teams in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with comfort influencing at the executive level
  • Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow multiple engineering teams within the Business Systems organization
  • Define technical strategy and roadmap for business-critical systems in partnership with product, operations, and technology leaders
  • Drive the design and delivery of scalable backend services, APIs, and integrations that enable cross-functional efficiency
  • Establish and maintain best practices for engineering excellence, system reliability, and security
  • Partner with senior business stakeholders to ensure technology investments align with organizational priorities and enable growth
  • Develop engineering managers and senior engineers, fostering leadership capability and technical ownership across the organization
  • Cultivate a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative team environment that attracts and retains top talent
