The Senior Electricity Market Optimization Software Engineer will play a key role in leading and contributing to the design, development, testing, integration, and performance tuning of advanced power systems application software, focusing on power system capabilities for electric utilities, Independent System Operators (ISOs), and Transmission System Operators (TSOs). This role involves working within a team of 8–15 professionals to enhance, evolve, and support a large, on-premise, highly available Electricity Market Management System (MMS), with the team comprising power systems, database, software, and optimization engineers. GE Vernova's singular mission is to address the climate crisis by continuing to electrify the world while simultaneously working to help decarbonize it, embodying a new, innovative era of lower carbon energy.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with thesis or related work in power systems OR in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
  • Two to five years of experience in Electricity Markets, Security Constrained Unit Commitment and Economic Dispatch using Mixed Integer Programming (MIP), Energy Management Systems (EMS), or Power System Analysis applications.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
  • Must be willing to travel 10-20% of the time
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Bellevue, WA if the need arises.

Nice To Haves

  • PHD in Electrical Engineering with thesis or related work in power systems
  • Three (3) years of experience in development or project delivery experience in Electricity Market field

  • Strong understanding of Mixed-Integer Programming (MIP)

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for defining, developing, and evolving software in a fast paced and agile development environment using the latest software development technologies and infrastructure
  • Provide domain knowledge and/or technical leadership to a team of electricity markets application software engineers
  • Lead and contribute to electricity market application development and ensure software delivery is on schedule, within budget and meets or exceeds customer expectations
  • Promote and demonstrate best practices and high-quality in software development processes
  • Write documents such as design notes, testing procedures, etc.
  • Provide budgetary estimate for new project tasks to project leads and project managers
  • Support tendering team, customer demos and customer training
  • Work with customer throughout the project life cycle to ensure the software meets customer’s quality standards and functional requirements.
  • Mentor junior team members
  • Participate in testing of the integrated system.
  • Identify the need for changes whether they are defects or new enhancements
  • Work in a self-directed fashion to proactively identify system problems, failures, and areas for improvement.
  • Track issue resolution and document solutions implemented and create troubleshooting guides.
  • Interact with Product Development Team, Customers, Solution Providers (Partner / Integrators), and other cross-functional teams as required.
  • Apply principles of SDLC and methodologies like Lean/Agile/XP, CI, software and product security, scalability, documentation practices, refactoring and testing techniques
