About The Position

This role focuses on building and maintaining the technical infrastructure for a digital pathology ecosystem, enabling secure and efficient management of high-volume whole slide imaging (WSI) data. The Senior Software Engineer will act as the key technical bridge between image management systems, AI-driven image analysis pipelines, laboratory information systems, and enterprise data warehouses. Working within cross-functional teams spanning R&D, lab operations, and software development, this position ensures scalable, GxP-compliant integrations that directly enhance diagnostic workflows and clinical throughput. The role requires deep expertise in cloud architecture, API/middleware design, and healthcare interoperability standards. Success depends on designing robust integration pipelines, collaborating with AI and bioinformatics teams, and maintaining high system reliability in a regulated, high-impact environment. This position offers a fully remote work arrangement with a standard Monday–Friday day shift.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Biomedical Informatics, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in software architecture, systems integration, and regulated healthcare or life sciences environments.
  • Hands-on experience with digital pathology, radiology (PACS/RIS), or high-content imaging system integrations.
  • Expertise with cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure preferred), data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks), and API design (REST, GraphQL).
  • Proven experience with healthcare interoperability standards, including HL7, FHIR, and DICOM.
  • Experience integrating AI/ML models into clinical production workflows, preferably in oncology or genomics.
  • Proficient in .NET, C#, Blazor, SQL, and familiar with event-driven architectures and message queuing.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills in cross-functional, regulated environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement integration layers connecting image management systems, laboratory systems, and AI analysis pipelines using API, HL7, and FHIR standards.
  • Develop and maintain middleware and microservices across cloud and on-prem infrastructure to orchestrate complex clinical workflows.
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to architect pipelines for structured and unstructured data ingestion into enterprise platforms.
  • Define technical standards for interoperability and enforce data consistency across pathology reports, annotations, and clinical data.
  • Implement secure and compliant data exchanges aligned with HIPAA, GDPR, and GxP requirements.
  • Partner with AI and bioinformatics teams to design inference pipelines that route digital slides to analysis models and return results to pathologists.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for integration failures, ensuring high availability and operational reliability.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range $108,000–$162,000 annually, plus performance bonus.
  • Fully remote work with flexible schedule.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Company 401(k) match and Employee Stock Purchase Program.
  • Tuition reimbursement and professional development opportunities.
  • Generous paid time off and holidays, plus wellness programs and employee resource groups.
  • Positive, collaborative, and learning-focused work environment.
