About The Position

Bloomberg News is seeking an experienced software engineer to join the Data Journalism Engineers team, focusing on merging journalism, technology, and creativity to tell impactful stories. This role involves collaborating with the Data Journalism team to unlock stories for a global audience, leveraging engineering expertise to solve shared goals and innovate data reporting techniques. The position offers autonomy in working with evolving technologies and access to powerful internal tools, making a significant impact on how stories are told and consumed.

Requirements

• 4+ years working with an object-oriented programming language (C/C++, Python, Java, etc.)
• A Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent work experience
• A passion for news and a drive to innovate in Data Journalism
• A proactive approach to problem-solving
• Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, HTML/XML, or R
• Experience with APIs, back-end services, database management, and SQL
• Excellent collaboration and communication abilities
• Familiarity with data analysis, web scraping, or natural language processing
• Strong instincts for uncovering hidden story angles within data
• Eagerness to explore new tools and problem-solving techniques like LLMs and AI.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in Apache Arrow, Google Big Query, Parquet files for navigating large data
• Interest in team leadership opportunities as the team grows.
