About The Position

Microsoft has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer in the Cloud+AI Azure Data Explorer team. As part of a core product engineering group, you will develop features, improvements, enhancements, and bugfixes within Azure Data Explorer products which are used by Microsoft's worldwide customer. As a member of the Azure Data Explorer team, you will also be responsible for deploying and operating Azure Data Explorer services within an air-gapped environment. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with engineers who enable a broad set of Azure services to be consumed by internal and external customers in highly secured and regulated industries. The systems and software you build will be required to meet the security policy and assurance requirements of both public and private sector customers. The scale of our operations is enormous. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Candidates must have an active TS and be willing to upgrade to TS/SCI (with polygraph) or have an active TS/SCI and be willing to upgrade to TS/SCI (with polygraph).
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • 3+ years of experience with PowerShell, C#, or C++.
  • Experience working on large-scale distributed services with on-call responsibilities.
  • Front-end: React/TypeScript.
  • Back-end: C#/API development/Resource Provider development.
  • DevOps: CI/CD ADO.

Responsibilities

  • Defines and develops standardized, repeatable, scalable solutions to guarantee quality.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and incident response to ensure high availability of services.
  • Develops 'best-in-class' engineering for our services by ensuring that the services and the components are well-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored and reusable.
  • Improves test coverage for services, organizes and implements integration tests, and resolves problem areas.
  • Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
  • Applies best practices to reliably build code that is based on well-established methods.
  • Builds, enhances, reuses, contributes to, and identifies new software developer tools to support other programs and applications to create, debug, and maintain code for products.
  • Contributes to efforts to collect, classify, and analyze data with little oversight on a range of metrics.
  • Contributes to the development of automation within production and deployment of a complex product feature.
  • Drives efforts to collect, classify, and analyze data on a range of metrics.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook.
  • Maintains operations of live service as issues arise on a rotational, on-call basis.

  • Base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year.
  • Different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
