Role Summary As a Senior Software Engineer, Backend, you will be working on the Mapping and Smart Charging Cloud team, building features and working on integrations that will provide better mapping, navigation and charging experiences for our customers. Our services drive end-to-end charging integrations between our vehicles and different charging providers, and power charging optimizations that will empower Rivian and VW Group customers to make more green and cost-effective choices. You will be working closely with Vehicle, Mobile and Cloud teams at Rivian VW Group Technologies to build a world-class product for Rivian and VW Group customers. The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer that has strong problem solving and collaboration skills, who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and holds themselves to high engineering standards.

Requirements

5+ years of professional software development experience.
3+ years of experience building, delivering and maintaining large scale applications that are launched in production
Proficiency in backend programming languages (Go is a big plus, Kotlin is a plus).
Experience in RESTful API development and maintenance.
Experience with cloud infrastructures (AWS and GCP preferred).
Experience with event-driven architecture (Kafka and Redpanda preferred).
Understanding of both relational and non-relational databases
Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes containerization, and Git source control.
Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming paradigms and practices
Experience with software integration working with QA Automation.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

Experience with tracing and monitoring tools such as Datadog.
Experience in setting up CI/CD pipelines on Gitlab or Github.
Experience with data warehousing tools such as Databricks.
Experience with the OCPI charger specification or integrations with charging providers.
Experience with iOS or Android application development or services for Mobile applications.

Responsibilities

Software Development:
Develop server-side applications in Golang leveraging AWS services, including EKS, EventBridge, SQS, DynamoDB.
Develop a highly scalable, generic, and maintainable API layer that can be applied to multiple applications and clients.
Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following best practices.
Ensure that code is highly testable, and test coverage is at a high standard.
Stay current with emerging technologies and trends, integrating innovative approaches into development workflows.
Perform code reviews to uphold high standards of software quality and maintainability.
Analyze complex problems, propose effective solutions, and deliver results on time.
System Design and Architecture:
Assist in designing and implementing a highly-distributed, scalable, and high-performance backend system.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and third-party partners to define software requirements and system architecture.
DevOps:
Develop CI/CD pipelines for seamless build, test, and deployment processes.
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues promptly.
Must be open to on-call duties during off hours & weekends.
