Chime is looking for a senior engineer to build and evolve our core messaging and low-latency data-sharing platforms – the backbone of information exchange across Chime services. The Application and Language Frameworks team also owns key systems that shape the developer experience and engineering consistency, including: Caching – Redis governance, patterns, and operational improvements; Job Processing – Async local and distributed messaging systems; Unified Tooling – Shared Rails libraries for logging, tracing, security, and other cross-cutting features, plus PII masking and schema enforcement; Language and Engineering Excellence – Ruby versioning, Jemalloc/YJIT, Rails generators, best practices, with expansion into future languages. You’ll work at the intersection of infrastructure and the application layer, delivering frameworks and tooling that free product engineers to focus on features while ensuring scale, reliability, and consistency.

  • Automate everything, including upgrades, monitoring, and operations.
  • Build tools that enable self-service both within the team and across all of Chime engineering.
  • Build and maintain highly reliable, scalable platforms and libraries.
  • Improve developer productivity through the introduction of new tools/automation, or improvements to existing tools/automation.
  • Partner with product, data, and infrastructure engineering to solve cross-cutting technical challenges.
  • Reduce operational overhead of platform services through strong collaboration with infra teams.
  • Advise engineering teams on communication and data-sharing patterns.
  • Understanding of asynchronous and synchronous data-sharing patterns (pub/sub, RPC, caching, etc.).
  • Strong Ruby/Rails experience; Python or Go is an added bonus.
  • Strong familiarity with AWS (including ElastiCache, SNS/SQS) and infrastructure tooling such as Terraform, Helm, Kubernetes, and Docker.
  • Exposure to large-scale architectural patterns and mission-critical production systems.
  • Experience working in CI/CD environments.
  • Track record of shipping production systems as part of a team.
  • Drive to solve complex problems end-to-end.
  • A community mindset and passion for supporting internal engineers.
  • Clear, effective communication skills.
  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • 401k match plus great medical, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits
  • Generous vacation policy and company-wide Chime Days, bonus company-wide paid days off
  • 1% of your time off to support local community organizations of your choice
  • Annual wellness stipend to use towards eligible wellness related expenses
  • Up to 24 weeks of paid parental leave for birthing parents and 12 weeks of paid parental leave for non-birthing parents
  • Access to Maven, a family planning tool, with $15k lifetime reimbursement for egg freezing, fertility treatments, adoption, and more.
  • In-person and virtual events to connect with your fellow Chimers—think cooking classes, guided meditations, music festivals, mixology classes, paint nights, etc., and delicious snack boxes.
