Join Simplisafe's Device Platform team as a Senior Manager of Software Engineering to lead one of our high-performing backend development teams. Together with your team, you’ll work with stakeholders to build a technical roadmap that balances short-term value delivery and long-term platform investments, then lead the team in delivering incrementally against that roadmap. In the Device Platform domain, you’ll be responsible for ensuring SimpliSafe’s millions of internet-connected home security devices can securely and reliably communicate with our cloud ecosystem.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2-4 years of experience in a formal management or technical lead role managing direct reports.
• Expertise in developing and deploying complex, high-traffic, event-driven backend systems and microservices.
• Proficiency in at least one major programming language (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, Go, Python, C#) with the adaptability to work with multiple languages.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and the infrastructure that supports them, including databases (e.g. MongoDB, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL), caching (e.g. Redis), and message queues (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Hands-on experience building, deploying, and maintaining cloud-based backend systems (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps principles.

Responsibilities

• Manage and mentor a team of backend software engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
• Conduct regular one-on-ones, provide coaching, write and deliver performance reviews, and support career development plans for all team members.
• Drive the planning, execution, and successful delivery of projects within an Agile/Scrum framework, ensuring on-time delivery and high-quality results.
• Partner with product managers, program managers, and other engineering teams to define requirements, scope projects, and manage dependencies.
• Actively participate in your team’s software design process, through a mix of direct personal contributions and partnering with senior engineers on your team.
• Maintain your team’s technical roadmap, balancing reliability improvements and tech debt with business-driven initiatives.
• Set and enforce technical standards, conduct rigorous code and design reviews, and ensure the team adheres to best practices in areas such as testing, monitoring, and security.
• Oversee the deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of production systems, and participate in an on-call rotation as needed.

• The target annual base pay range for this role is $164,300 to $240,900.
• This target annual base pay range represents our good-faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this role. We use a market-based compensation approach to set our target annual base pay ranges and make adjustments annually. We carefully tailor individual compensation packages, including base pay, taking into consideration employees’ job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and other relevant business factors.
