Senior Software Development Engineer Expedia Technology teams partner with our Product teams to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. Join Expedia’s Insurance and Assurance team, where we empower travelers with peace of mind through purpose-built insurance products. We're seeking a high performing and influential individual contributor who leads by example while continuing to mentor junior engineers, interfaces consistently with tech leadership in the local organization, leads complex and vaguely-defined projects, and stretches into team leadership skills based on current projects. In this role you will: Collaborate across teams and lead communities of practice to foster shared learning and cross-functional alignment. Guide junior engineers and occasionally step into leadership roles, supporting team growth and continuity. Design, test, and maintain integrated software solutions that align with business goals and technical best practices. Advocate for software design excellence, including the use of architectural patterns, frameworks, and operational standards like testing and SLAs. Analyze and improve systems holistically, applying systems thinking to optimize processes, technology, and team structures. Communicate complex project updates and technical insights to leadership, ensuring transparency and thorough documentation.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software development.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field or equivalent related professional experience.
• Experience leading the end-to-end technical design and delivery of multiple multi-quarter projects.
• Deep expertise in multiple technologies or languages, with the ability to justify technical decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience in software development.
• Demonstrated leadership through formal mentorship, community contributions (e.g., blog posts, open source, tech talks), and cross-team collaboration.
• Skilled in designing and guiding testable, observable, and high-quality systems.
• Experience establishing operational excellence metrics at the team level.
• A strong understanding of business needs, with a track record of identifying and solving team-level technical and organizational challenges
