About The Position

Sugpiat Defense is seeking a Senior SOF Program Support Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a DoW client. This role provides senior-level advisory, analytical, and operational support to Joint Special Operations Forces (SOF) programs and Joint Headquarters/Joint Task Force (JHQ/JTF) activities. The SME will leverage deep expertise in Joint SOF operations, planning, and interagency coordination to support the development, sustainment, and optimization of SOF capabilities. This position focuses on mission integration, planning support, operational analysis, and stakeholder engagement across USSOCOM and its mission partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required in a relevant area of study (military studies, business, education, instructional design, et al.), or a combination of specialized training, education, and experience (including military service) equivalent to a degree may be acceptable.
  • Minimum of three years experience as a staff officer within HQ USSOCOM or a JHQ.
  • At least two consecutive years of operational experience with high-tempo operations and activities directly supporting mission partners in a joint, combined, and/or interagency environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of operational design, Joint processes, systems analysis, etc.
  • Recent and relevant experience providing strategic planning and operational support for establishing and sustaining JHQ/JTF or rapidly deployable special mission units.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of Joint SOF and the mission, core activities, roles, and functions of USSOCOM and its components and Sub-unified Commands.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge on researching, defining, evaluating, and implementing capabilities to enhance Joint and SOF global warfighting and Irregular Warfare capabilities.
  • 5 years’ experience briefing and preparing written products for senior leaders (general officer/flag officer/senior executive service level)
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of and experience in program development and management relating to special operations by existing laws, Federal regulations, and Department of War policies.
  • Proven executive-level experience conducting policy, planning, and strategic global operations for National Defense Strategy, National Military Strategy, and associated Department of War (DoW) agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with DoD Combatant Commands, DoW agencies, the Joint Staff, OSW, and U.S. departments and agencies, and understanding of interagency processes and emerging joint doctrine to resolve policy and functional issues effectively.
  • Current DoD Top Secret clearance and eligible for SCI access

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor and SME to government leadership on Joint SOF operations, planning, and program support activities.
  • Provide analytical and operational support to JHQ/JTF planning, deployment, sustainment, and redeployment efforts.
  • Liaise and coordinate with mission partners including USSOCOM, Geographic Combatant Commands (GCCs), Theater Special Operations Commands (TSOCs), Joint Staff, OSW, NATO, and interagency partners.
  • Support deliberate and crisis action planning (CAP) processes, including participation in Crisis Action Teams (CAT) and Continuity of Operations (COOP) planning and execution.
  • Conduct research, analysis, and assessments to develop actionable recommendations for senior military and government leadership.
  • Advise and assist in the development and review of doctrine, operational plans, briefings, white papers, and strategic communications.
  • Analyze DoW operations, plans, and strategies to identify key tasks, operational gaps, and opportunities to enhance SOF effectiveness.
  • Support the integration and interoperability of SOF and conventional forces in support of GCC objectives.
  • Facilitate and support government-led training events, seminars, workshops, and staff development activities.
  • Coordinate and support meetings, conferences, and engagements related to SOF operations and capability development.
  • Develop and maintain professional networks to enhance coordination and collaboration across mission partners.
  • Provide SME input to improve JHQ/JTF capability development, staffing, training, and operational effectiveness.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to program execution, including planning support, deliverable review, and operational alignment.
  • Support development and refinement of program documentation, reports, and briefings for senior leadership.
  • Identify risks, issues, and operational gaps, and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives related to SOF program support and operational workflows.
  • Assist in aligning program activities with DoW policies, USSOCOM priorities, and mission objectives.
  • Support data analysis, reporting, and performance tracking to inform decision-making.
  • Provide input to integrated planning efforts and cross-functional coordination activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
