About The Position

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional This Senior Social Worker is part of the Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences Service (MHBSS), located at the Providence VA Medical Center. The Senior Social Worker in this position acts in the role of senior social worker to an interdisciplinary team of professionals and trainees working with Veterans with a range of psychiatric disorders, provides supervision and consultation as appropriate, provides educational opportunities, provides direct patient care via individual and groups, and administratively will participate in program development activities related to BHIP (Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program) implementation in consultation the Department of Mental Health leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a full range of clinically indicated evaluations and interventions, including consultation, risk assessment, functional assessment, diagnostic evaluation, psychoeducation, and individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy.
  • Selects and provides the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care, including evidence-based care for mental, behavioral, or emotional disorders, as well as adjunctive treatments and interventions for medical conditions (including but not limited to chronic pain, sleep issues, weight management, diabetes, etc.). Best practices, practice guidelines, measurement-based care, and evidence-based treatment protocols are utilized to the extent feasible in all therapeutic encounters.
  • Completes intakes and makes appropriate treatment recommendations based on these assessments and evaluations.
  • Provides clinical supervision and training to social work interns/trainees.
  • Attends and participates in treatment team meetings and serves as a consultant to other treatment providers.
  • Completes administrative functions, including report and progress note writing and attending discipline-specific, staff, service, and organizational meetings.
  • Responds to clinic consults, coordinates patient care, and assists with tracking clinic data.
  • Provides interdisciplinary clinical consultation and clinical guidance to mental health and medical staff, as needed.
  • Working with MH Leadership to implement BHIP across VA Providence and the 3 CBOCs.
  • Working with MH Leadership to implement a centralized consult and assessment process across Outpatient MH at VA Providence.
