About The Position

The incumbent will independently provide services in outpatient mental health. The incumbent performs work related to the review, monitoring, analysis, planning and assessment of the Family Services. The incumbent is responsible for key project activities related to planning, development and implementation of project component. The incumbent will also provide education, consultation, and guidance to various other interdisciplinary teams within the Ambulatory Care Center.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a wide range of services, including evidenced based practices, to Veterans diagnosed with a MI and their loved ones including BFT, IBCT, CBCT for PTSD, SAFE, PAIRS, multi-family groups, family consultation, and crisis intervention.
  • Utilize advanced clinical judgment to determine the appropriate treatment intervention for the Veteran and their loved ones.
  • Provide family interventions independently.
  • Allow for flexibility to provide services after hours and on weekends.
  • Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with Veterans and their loved ones through engagement, rapport building, instilling hope, and offering support.
  • Provide orientation and overall program information to the Veteran and their loved ones.
  • Conduct comprehensive individual psychosocial assessments of the Veteran and loved ones, as well as couples assessments.
  • Utilize advanced clinical skills and training to provide interventions to Veterans considered a high risk population and their loved ones. Educate these Veterans and their loved ones about communication skills and problem-solving skills in an effort to prevent relapse and reduce recidivism rates.
  • Have knowledge of VA and community resources and provide the Veteran and their family unit with referrals to services as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with other programs and disciplines to promote continuity of care while providing family treatment interventions in conjunction with other services the Veteran may be receiving.
  • Collaborate with Ambulatory Care Center staff on projects to improve patient care and resolving problems that might negatively impact patient care.
  • Develop and maintain a clinical database for Veterans and their loved ones requesting or referred to FS.
  • Serve as a consultant to various treatment teams in Behavioral Health Service, Social Work Service, and Primary Care regarding Veteran family issues and treatment.
  • Provide education and training on various evidenced based treatment practices.
  • Participate in the writing of policies, procedures, and practice guidelines for FS.
  • May participate in clinical research in a relevant area or inquiry and/or participate in program evaluation pertinent to clinical effectiveness of FS.

  • Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
  • Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

  • Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
  • Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
