What You Will Do: Keeps current in the field of Sleep medicine and takes an active role in the education of the sleep staff and other healthcare professions. Able to assume duties of the Director in her short-term absence. Responsible for Sleep Lab business marketing including inpatient referrals, community outreach programs and connecting with the medical community. Monitors and maintains growth and expansion of sleep services. Performs quality control measures to assure procedural quality, according to the American Association of Sleep Medicine (ASSM) guidelines. Conducts Quality Assurance to insure that the department meets and improves on the services provided. Monitors Sleep Services policy and practices as they relate to the safety of the employee, patient and family, and compliance with all regulatory agencies. Reports any department equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel. Orders supplies, maintaining appropriate supply par level. Maintains knowledge of current accreditation requirements. Assures that these requirements are met by maintaining appropriate records and development, revision and review of policies and procedures in conjunction with the Director. Collects and maintains appropriate data. Prepares reports as needed. Participates on committees and task forces as required. Performs sleep tests and procedures to provide the physician with data to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient. Trains and orients all staff, or oversees the training and orientation by a designee. Documents any problems with patients, staff and physicians. Demonstrates responsibility for continued growth, competence and development. Participates in department performance improvement activities as assigned and attends required training. Performs a wide variety of assignments (policies, procedures, correspondence for Director, memorandums) which are often confidential in nature and maintains confidentiality of such. Prepares a variety of special reports, statements, and rosters. Gathers data and other necessary information. Answers inquiries concerning activities and operations of department by referring to and interpreting policies and procedures. Engages in a variety of contacts outside Firelands in order to obtain or relay information, arrange meetings, etc., often dealing with individuals who are influential or important to the hospital. Opens, sorts, reviews and distributes mail and prepares responses to routine inquiries. Assists management in accuracy of daily charges and other departmental financial actions. Provides administrative support and assistance to the Medical Director. Maintains monthly medical director time allocation sheets. Maintains payroll records, schedule and annual staff evaluations for Sleep Lab staff. Assures communication between Sleep Lab professionals, physicians and other health care professionals to foster continuity of care. Facilitates interactions between Sleep Lab staff and the Director. Assists to meet the overall day to day operational requirements of the Sleep Lab department.
