Mayo Clinic Senior Security Officers provide a professional level of customer service, security presence and response. A Senior Security Officer will proactively patrol Mayo Clinic property to deter crime and undesirable behaviors while building trusted relationships with staff. They respond to security and other emergency incidents to ensure the safety of occupants and enforce Mayo policies. The role includes preparing accurate and timely incident reports and may involve using a security vehicle to patrol and respond to incidents. A Senior Security Officer adapts to unpredictable and stressful situations while demonstrating professionalism, managing verbal and physical aggression using verbal de-escalation techniques, and managing physical violence using self-defense, control and restraint techniques, including handcuffing or medical restraints. They respond to emergency crises effectively and professionally, exhibiting good judgment, maturity, initiative, tact, and diplomacy when dealing with people during stressful situations. The position requires exercising sound independent judgment in both emergency and routine situations. Additionally, the Senior Security Officer is responsible for deterring terrorist activity and/or violent attacks through patrolling and searching for suspicious behavior and items, utilizing tactics and techniques taught in Behavior Detection Officer Certification Training. They must conduct effective customer-friendly security interviews to confirm or refute suspicious behaviors detected. The Senior Security Officer assists in overseeing the activities and supervision of security officers on an assigned shift by providing input, recommending appropriate action, and disseminating information. They provide input into staff appraisals and assist with leadership functions.
