Under the direction of the Security Supervisor, the Senior Security Officer (Armed) is responsible for the performance of all security and safety duties as assigned. This role provides an armed, uniformed security presence throughout St. Joseph’s Health (SJH) campuses. Senior Security Officers will assess threats, provide immediate response to, and mitigate offenses against public order, life and safety of colleagues, staff, patients, visitors, and others on and within the buildings and grounds of SJH. Offenses or events requiring investigation and thorough reporting will be made and submitted to the Lead Security Officer and other SJH Leadership. Coordination with law enforcement agencies based on threat assessment and offenses is also part of the role. Other duties as assigned.

  • Perform all security and safety duties as assigned.
  • Provide armed, uniformed security presence throughout SJH campuses.
  • Assess threats and provide immediate response to mitigate offenses.
  • Investigate and report offenses or events requiring thorough reporting.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement agencies based on threat assessment.
  • Maintain the department's equipment in a safe manner.
  • Perform security/safety rounds and fixed post assignments.
  • Respond to calls for service in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Conduct searches of patients, visitors, and staff in accordance with policy.
  • Complete thorough and professional written reports of all assigned investigations.
  • Document incidents and events using departmental cameras and systems.
  • Valid State of New York Armed Security Guard License or active police officer status at time of hiring.
  • Successful completion of the DCJS Basic Course for Police Officers preferred.
  • High School Diploma/GED Certificate required; Associate degree preferred.
  • A valid NYS Drivers License is required.
  • IAHSS Basic Security Certification must be completed within one year of hire.
  • FEMA Emergency Management Institute courses must be completed within 90 days of hire.
  • BLS Certification required upon hire or within 3 weeks of hire.
  • Minimum of five years experience in armed security, healthcare security, or law enforcement.
  • Knowledge of New York State Penal Law and Criminal Procedure Law.
  • Knowledge of the use of force continuum and its application in private security.
  • Five years of Law Enforcement Experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of a Psychiatric evaluation prior to hire.
