The Senior Security Officer (Armed) position at St. Joseph’s Health involves providing armed, uniformed security presence throughout the SJH campuses. Under the direction of the Security Supervisor, the officer is responsible for assessing threats, responding to incidents, and ensuring the safety of colleagues, staff, patients, and visitors. The role includes investigating offenses, coordinating with law enforcement, and submitting reports to leadership. The position requires working full-time night shifts from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM, including a weekend and holiday rotation.

  • Provide armed security presence throughout SJH campuses.
  • Assess threats and provide immediate response to incidents.
  • Mitigate offenses against public order and safety.
  • Investigate incidents and submit reports to the Lead Security Officer.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement agencies based on threat assessments.
  • Perform security and safety rounds and fixed post assignments.
  • Conduct searches of patients, visitors, and staff in accordance with policy.
  • Complete thorough and professional written reports of investigations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all investigations and matters of concern.
  • Valid State of New York Armed Security Guard License or active police officer status.
  • Successful completion of the DCJS Basic Course for Police Officers preferred.
  • High School Diploma/GED Certificate required; Associate degree preferred.
  • Valid NYS Drivers License required.
  • IAHSS Basic Security Certification must be completed within one year of hire.
  • FEMA Emergency Management Institute courses must be completed within 90 days of hire.
  • BLS Certification required upon hire or within 3 weeks of hire.
  • Minimum of five years experience in armed security, healthcare security, or law enforcement.
  • Five years of Law Enforcement Experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of New York State Penal Law and Criminal Procedure Law.
  • Understanding of the use of force continuum in a private security setting.
